February 5, 2010 CORRIM Compares Carbon Impacts The Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials recently released the sixth in a series of fact sheets on environmental impacts of growing, gathering, processing, using, maintaining, discarding and/or reusing wood and other bio-based materials. CORRIM’s new sheet reports results of a study comparing net carbon emissions for products used in floor and wall structures. In floor structures, dimension wood joists covered with oriented strand board comes out the winner, while concrete covered with vapor barrier is the worst combination from a carbon emissions standpoint. In wall structures, the worst assembly is concrete block and stucco. Click here for full details and here for more sheets. |

Bring the Wood!
Naturally, all of us at SFPA will be rooting for the boys in black and gold, and we hope at least some of you will too. After all, those of us in the sawmill business just have to show a little love for any team that likes to “Bring the Wood.” And yes, we know it might take more than a bat to knock Peyton Manning and the rest of the Colts off their game! |
