SFPA Staff Members Speak at Inaugural Georgia Tech Event

Two SFPA staff members were among speakers at the first-ever Georgia Tech Wood Expo, an event organizers hope to hold every other year from now on. The inaugural event was held Sept. 9-11 in Atlanta with about 200 people attending. Designed for architects, specifiers, builders, suppliers and distributors, the Expo offered three concurrent tracks: “Design and Planning,” “Codes and Standards” and “Products and Methods.” The Expo also featured exhibits.

Speaking from SFPA were Cathy Kaake, senior director of engineered and framing markets, and Richard Kleiner, director of treated markets. Cathy spoke about raised floor foundations, while Richard covered topics related to using pressure-treated Southern Pine. Raised Floor Living was also among the event’s sponsors (click here for list).

Visit www.gtwoodexpo.com for more information about the Expo, or contact Cathy at 504/443-4464, ext. 213, or ckaake@sfpa.org; or Richard at ext. 211, or rkleiner@sfpa.org.

Raised Floor Sweepstakes Starts Next Week

Starting on Wednesday of next week, residents in Jacksonville, Fla., and the surrounding area can sign up to win the services of a designer to help them design their dream home. Of course, that dream home will be designed with a raised floor foundation. The “Design Your Dream Home” sweepstakes is part of a three-phase set of events the Southern Pine Council and APA are sponsoring in northeast Florida to promote raised floor systems. The first two phases are being conducted through APA's “Raise the Floor 2009 Design Challenge,” which features competitions for builders and designers. The services of the winning designer will be awarded as a prize to the sweepstakes winner.

Also boosting awareness of raised floor systems in the Jacksonville area will be a series of two-minute television segments created to promote the sweepstakes and explain the benefits of raised floor foundations. The segments feature SFPA’s Cathy Kaake, senior director of engineered and framing markets, and Richard Kleiner, director of treated markets. They will be seen on WTEV-TV (CBS) and WAWS-TV (FOX) beginning the day the sweepstakes opens and concluding with a segment featuring the winner on Dec. 9. Advertisements promoting “Raised Floor Living” started airing in the Jacksonville area last week and will continue running through early November.

Complete sweepstakes details will be available on www.raisedfloorliving.com starting Sept. 23. The television ads, one of which carries Raised Floor Living’s environmental message – can be viewed by clicking here and here. We’ll provide links to the television segments as soon as they’re available. Meanwhile, for more information, contact Richard Wallace, SFPA’s vice president of communications, at 504/443-4464, ext. 236, or by e-mail at rwallace@sfpa.org.
