August 28, 2009 2009 Raised Floor Living Blitz Starts Next Week
Watch for the August issue of Raised Floor Living News coming out later today for more details about the new Web site for homeowners and advertising campaign. Meanwhile, here are previews of the “green” raised floor living advertisement that will air in both markets, the spot that will be seen in Jacksonville and the one Houston residents will see. One more important note: the spots will air on a number of popular shows in both markets, and in Jacksonville, they’ll even appear during NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and ABC’s “Saturday Night College Football.”
“We’re excited about the type of prime-time programs where our ads will be seen and looking forward to a successful 2009 campaign,” said Cathy Kaake, SFPA’s senior director of engineered and framing systems and coordinator of the raised floor program. |

Building Editors Hear Latest on Southern Pine
Editors at
Hanley Wood
heard the latest information on Southern Pine during an in-person
visit earlier this week from Southern Pine Council public relations
consultant Kim Drew. Through a series of events,
“It was a really good trip,” Kim said. “The editors had a lot of questions and were very interested in our Habitat projects as well as a lot of the other things we’re doing. It was also interesting to hear their opinions on the big issues that affect our industry like the economy and green building. That insight will help us work with them on stories related to our programs and products.”
Hanley Wood is located in Washington, D.C. The media company publishes a variety of magazines for the building trade industry, including Builder, Building Products, ProSales, Remodeling, Custom Home, Residential Architect, Architect and more. Hanley Wood’s Web site, www.ebuild.com, is also a valued source of building product information throughout the industry. |

SFPA Joins Material Dealers ‘Green’ Discussion Getting a better handle on green building and how it affects their business was the main objective of a Mid South Building Material Dealers Association Green Committee meeting held recently in Biloxi, Miss. SFPA’s Russell Richardson, director of industrial markets, was invited to attend to represent the viewpoint of the forest products industry. Topics discussed included the various green building programs available and how those programs impact building products.
Russell talked to committee members about certified wood products and how they fit into green building construction. “One of the top discussion questions was how to source FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) lumber for customers requesting it for LEED projects,” he said. That led to a discussion of how wood products move from the forest to market, the types of forest certification schemes available and how those programs fit into the various green building rating systems.
“This was a great opportunity for us to reach out to other members of the wood products supply chain and express our views to those who buy and sell our lumber,” Russell said. “It also gave me a chance to learn about some of the challenges dealers are having selling our products in a green market.”
